Police News: Tables damaged at Macedonia park

Macedonia -- The Macedonia Fire Department was called to extinguish a picnic table that had been lit on fire at Sugar Bush Park in Macedonia June 1 around 8:15 p.m.

A resident said she discovered the table on fire while walking her dog in the park. She said several males had been in the vicinity, but police said they could not locate them.

Another resident who was walking in the park said she noticed that in addition to the table that was on fire, the benches on three other tables were broken some time after she arrived at the park.

Police retrieved a disposable lighter and are investigating. A damage estimate was not available.

-- Traffic stop --

June 2: Man cited for driving under suspension. Police stopped 28-year-old Bedford resident on Route 82 after a patrolman reported the driver behind him appeared to have high beams on while driving.

The officer determined the man was driving under suspension and the driver told him there was marijuana inside the car. Police found a small amount of marijuana in a cigarette container. The man was taken to the Macedonia police station and charged with driving under suspension, drug abuse and possession of paraphernalia.

A passenger in the car, a 27-year-old Macedonia man, was cited for an open container violation and released after he admitted an open bottle of beer in the car belonged to him, according to the report.

-- Property damage --

June 5: Mailboxes damaged. An Iroquois Run resident reported her mailbox and that belonging to a neighbor had been damaged during the night. Police took a driver's side mirror from a late-model vehicle as evidence.

-- Telephone harassment --

June 2: Woman won't stop leaving messages. A resident went to the police station to report a Maple Heights woman kept sending him messages regarding money she allegedly thinks he owes her. The man said he has already contacted the city of Maple Heights regarding the woman.

-- OVI, drug charges --

June 9: Man stopped on Interstate 480. A police officer stopped a 23-year-old Euclid man going 81 mph in a 65 mph zone and after smelling marijuana in the car, found a partially smoked marijuana cigarette.

Police said the man also failed field sobriety tests and was charged with OVI, speeding, drug abuse and paraphernalia.

-- Child endangering --

June 8: Little girl left in car. Police cited a worker employed by North Randall day care with a misdemeanor charge of child endangerment after someone reported a little girl had been left alone in a car outside a Macedonia Commons theater. The child's age was not listed in the report.

The worker told police there were 17 children from the day care at the theater and she had been dealing with a child who had fallen in the parking lot. The worker said she had been cleaning up that child when she remembered about the little girl in the vehicle and told police the girl had been alone about 15 minutes.

Northfield Center

-- Theft --

June 10: Car parts stolen. A Morningside Drive woman reported someone took the chrome and rubber bumper fittings from her car the previous night. The loss was estimated at $480.

-- Criminal damaging --

June 11: Cars keyed. Residents on Deep Path Lane, Lost Creek Circle and Shallow Creek Circle told deputies someone keyed their vehicles the previous night, "causing extensive damage," according to the report. The cars were a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix, a 2007 Lexus and a 2007 Chevy Malibu.

-- Disorderly conduct --

June 10: Men fighting. Deputies charged three men with disorderly conduct after being called to an Olde Eight Road bar.

One of the men, a 35-year-old Northfield Center man, was taken to the Sagamore Hills Medical Center for treatment of lacerations and abrasions, according to the report. Deputies said the Northfield Center man had followed two Macedonia men, ages 33 and 41, to the Northfield Center establishment after arguing with them at another bar.

The Northfield Center man allegedly threatened the Macedonia men with a crowbar and a fight ensued, according to the report. Deputies said all three had been drinking and charged all three with disorderly conduct.
