by Eric Marotta Editor Sagamore Hills -- Police responding to dozens of calls of mailboxes being smashed arrested five juveniles who they found with a baseball bat when they pulled over a car on Route 82 at North Boyden Road around 3:10 a.m. June 12. Sagamore Hills Police Chief David Hayes said more than 100 mailboxes were damaged throughout the township and possibly in other communities around 2:40 a.m. Hayes said an officer saw a car with five juveniles inside and decided to pull it over to question them. The juveniles, who police said admitted they had damaged the mailboxes, were ages 16 and 17 and were from the Northfield-Macedonia area, Hayes said. They are being charged with multiple counts of vandalism, though the charges will be determined by the juvenile prosecutor, Hayes said. Streets where the mailboxes were damaged include Holzhauer Road, Gannett Road, Eaton Estates, Greenwood Village. "They're pretty much all over," Hayes said. He said the police department is compiling a list to present to the prosecutor's office for possible restitution. Residents whose mailboxes were damaged during the night of June 12 should contact the Sagamore Hills Police Department at 330-468-0900 or their local law enforcement agency. Comments
