Macedonia -- Police cited a Deepwood Drive man for allegedly giving false information after the man called to report he had been in a traffic accident, but told police a car had struck his 2000 Dodge Caravan. A police officer reported the man admitted he had provided false information after he told the man that his story did not match the evidence after examining the damage to the man's vehicle and the accident scene. According to the report, the man told police around 11:45 p.m. that a car had struck the front of his vehicle earlier in the evening while the other car was making a turn westbound onto Highland Road from Route 8. That vehicle then left the scene, the man told police. The patrolman said the man, after questioning, admitted the damage was caused when the Caravan struck a vehicle from behind while breaking. Police cited him with providing false information, a first-degree misdemeanor, and failure to maintain an assured clear distance. The other vehicle could not be located, the report stated. Attempted theft June 9. Man tries to take car part: A woman at a Macedonia Commons Business told police she had surprised a 20-year-old Hudson resident who had been doing something to her car around 5 p.m. The man had run away, but was apprehended while running across a parking lot after police responded to the scene. According to the report, the man admitted he had been trying to take a headlight gasket from the woman's 1999 Pontiac, which was the same model as his car parked a few spaces away in the parking lot. Police recovered a screwdriver and the gasket in the grass near the parking area and cited the man on misdemeanor charges of theft and possession of criminal tools. Criminal damaging June 10. Man reports paintball damage: A Navajo Trail man reported someone had struck his garage door and 2007 black Chevy Silverado with paintballs during the previous night. June 6. Theft from business: A Freeway Drive business reported someone took snowplow parts from the building some time previously. No damage estimate was given. Police said they are reviewing the report. June 11. Cars keyed: A Needham Court Resident reported his two vehicles, a 2007 Toyota Tacoma truck and a 2008 Nissan Altima, were keyed during the night. There was no damage estimate. Police said the Summit County Sheriff's Office was examining a similar report made at the same time at the Brandywine Preserve development off Twinsburg Road. Driving under the influence June 14. Woman drove into ditch: Police cited the driver of a 1999 GMC Jimmy for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol after responding to a report the vehicle had gone into a ditch on the west side of Route 8 just north of I-271 just before 1 a.m. The woman, a 32-year-old Parma resident, was also cited for failure to control her vehicle and possession of marijuana, after police found 1.5 grams of the material in her car tested positive for the drug. June 15. Accident involved man's children: Police cited a 33-year-old Alliance man for third-degree felony charge of aggravated vehicular assault, as well as driving under the influence, child endangering and failure to maintain space between vehicles after the man allegedly struck the rear of another driver's car on I-271 about 11:30 p.m. The man told police he had had alcohol at an Indians game. The driver of the other vehicle, a 41-year-old Munroe Falls woman, was taken to UH-Bedford Medical Center complaining of neck and back pain. -- Northfield Village -- Property damage June 17. Window smashed: A Vincent Avenue man reported someone smashed his home's rear sliding glass door during the night. Nothing was reported missing inside the home. June 3. Car struck in parking lot: A Bedford man reported someone struck the side of his vehicle, causing moderate damage, while it was in the parking lot of a Route 8 business. Driving under suspension June 13. Woman stopped on Route 8: Police charged an Oakwood woman, 74, with driving under suspension after a random computer check showed her driver's license was suspended and they stopped her at about 4:30 p.m. The woman was given a Northfield Village Mayor's Court date and released on a personal bond. June 10. Random computer check shows suspension: Police charged a 20-year-old Northfield Center man with driving under suspension after they stopped him on Route 8 at about 11:35 a.m. after checking his vehicle license number. The man was given a Northfield Village Mayor's Court date and released on a personal bond. Arrest warrant June 11. Oakwood police turn woman over: Oakwood police reported they had in custody a Solon woman, 26, wanted by Northfield Village Mayor's Court for failing to appear in court on a driving under suspension charge. The woman was given a mayor's court date and released on a $250 bond. Drug paraphernalia June 10. Police hear loud music from car: Police charged a 27-year-old Bedford man with fourth-degree misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession, as well as marijuana possession and loud music from a motor vehicle, both minor misdemeanors, after they stopped him on Ledge Road at about midnight. Police said the man seemed nervous and after he refused police permission to search his vehicle, they called in a Walton Hills police K-9 unit, which indicated the presence of drugs. Police said they then found a drug pipe with residue in it and a plastic bag containing a small amount of suspected marijuana in the vehicle.
