Police news: Man finds home, vehicles, driveway vandalized with paint

Macedonia -- A Bruce Road man reported June 20 that someone spread paint on his home, vehicles, driveway, and a wooden deck, and also toilet-papered trees on his property while he was on vacation.

The man said a neighbor told him that the damage occurred during the night of June 16.

Police said there was paint on and around the windows of the one-story home on two vehicles in the driveway, and obscenities were written in paint on the driveway. The man said he tried to wash the paint off but was unsuccessful.

Police said they do not have a damage estimate.

Police said June 28 that the matter was under investigation.

Theft

June 24. Audio equipment taken: A Viola Way man reported someone took an amplifier and two speakers from his pickup truck. The man said the truck's radio had been broken since last September so he did not know when the theft took place.

Attempted fraud

June 22. Woman reports scam: A North Bedford Road woman reported a man called and told her that she had won $3.5 million in a contest, but to claim the prize she had to wire $299 to an address in Jamaica. The woman said the man told her he would call again after a short time to repeat the instructions.

A city police officer was with the woman at her home when the man called again and when the officer asked the man for the name of the company he represented, the man hung up. Police said they are investigating.

Property damage

June 18. Car scratched: A man reported someone scratched the side of his rental car while it was in the parking lot of a Route 82 business in the early afternoon. The man said he was able to buff most of the scratches out.

June 17. Tractor window latch broken: An Ohio Department of Transportation employee reported someone forced open the front windshield of a construction tractor, damaging its latch, while it was at the side of Interstate 271. The employee said nothing was missing from the tractor.

Theft

June 24. Bicycle stolen: A man reported someone took his $350 bicycle after he left it outside a Route 82 store.

June 4. Woman reports unauthorized purchase: A Bridgewater Lane woman reported someone made a $97 online purchase against her checking account. Police said the matter is under investigation.

Property damage

June 13. Flowers, light pole damaged: An Acadia Drive woman reported someone drove off the road during the night, damaging a decorative light pole and flowers. A police report estimated damage at about $500.

Arrest warrant

June 10. Woman turns herself in: A Cleveland woman paid $610 in fines and court costs June 17 in connection with a failure to reinstate her driver's license charge filed by township police in 2007. The woman had turned herself in at the township police department the week before.

According to Stow Municipal Court records, the woman pleaded guilty to the charge in September 2007 and the warrant was issued the following May after she failed to pay what she owed.
