Macedonia -- Police charged an Akron man with a felony drug possession after they said they found about a gram of suspected cocaine in his vehicle following a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 271 July 8.

According to Stow Municipal Court records, the 28-year-old man did not enter a plea to the fifth-degree felony charge at his July 8 arraignment. He pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, refusal to submit to a blood alcohol test, driving under suspension, ficticious license plates and failure to control.

He was being held in Macedonia City Jail on a 10 percent of $75,000 bond as of July 12.

Police said they responded to the interstate a little after midnight in response to an anonymous report of a traffic accident. Police said the man told them he had lost control of his vehicle and it went into the median strip between the north- and southbound sides of the interstate. The man said he then overcompensated when turning back into the road, struck a concrete barrier on the right side and ended up in the middle of the road.

The man was bleeding from a facial wound and was treated at the scene by the Macedonia Fire Department, but he refused to be taken to a medical facility, police said. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
