by Eric Marotta Editor Nordonia Hills -- Supporters of the school district's 6.5-mill continuing operating levy on the Nov. 2 ballot are scheduled to meet July 28 from 7 to 8 p.m. for an initial campaign planning session at Northfield Elementary School, 9374 Olde Eight Road in Northfield Center. Organizers said this is not a town hall meeting, but rather a meeting for people who want to help and support the levy and "want to be an integral part of maintaining the excellence in Nordonia Hills City Schools," according to a press release announcing the meeting. Organizers said that those who have seen "The Path We Choose" document posted on www.nordoniaschools.org understand what Nordonia Schools and its communities are facing without passage of this levy. To find the document, see the link at the end of the article titled "Cuts and the impact on students" under Latest News on the district's home page. Friends of Nordonia Schools committee co-chairs, Nicole Occhionero and Cindy O'Connor, said the group is seeking "an army of volunteers" to share information about the levy. Macedonia resident Charles Frazzin, who is serving as the organization's treasurer, discussed the importance of maintaining excellence in the schools in a posting on the school district's website. "The schools are providing the education that is necessary in today's ever-changing workforce," he said. "Students today, are required to have more education than those who graduated even 10 years ago." Those who want to participate are asked to consider what area they may be interested in providing volunteer support: in the following areas: * Encouraging people to register to vote; * Provide information on obtaining absentee ballots; * Update the independent Friends of Nordonia Schools levy website. * Encouraging people to write positive letters to the editor about the schools; * Assist with advertising; * Organizing various community forums; * Making sure the campaign is well represented at various school and community events; * Seek out opportunities and speak at or get speakers for various community groups; * Fundraising: All campaign funds are raised by the Friends of Nordonia Schools. * Seek support from local businesses.
