At the Library: Calling all scrappers to bring their memorabelia

Attention avid scrapbookers! Looking for space to s-p-r-e-a-d o-u-t for the whole day? Experienced and newbies alike invited to this all-day crop! Bring your gear, a lunch, and a friend! New faces are always welcome. Saturday, Aug. 7, 10:15 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Light fiction book discussions meets

Do you like to talk about the books you read and enjoy? Then join us the second Monday of each month at 2 p.m. for reader-to-reader book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow light fiction lovers. In August we'll be reading "The Cat Who Could Read Backwards," by Lilian Jackson Braun. Please join us Aug. 9 at 2 p.m.

Stitch Clique meets monthly

Grab your crocheting/knitting needles and yarn and stitch the evening away. Join us the second Tuesday of each month for crocheting/knitting tips, friendship, advice and more. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday, Aug. 10, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Socrates Café is open

Join us at the Socrates Café Aug. 11 at 6:30 p.m., a regular gathering of adults engaging in great conversation, exploring current events, thoughtful ideas, and reasoned debates. Come and take part, or just listen to the discussion. For all patrons 16 and over. No sign up necessary -- No homework -- No assigned reading.

Join Coffee and Conversation

Join us for some great conversation with your fellow Nordonia Hills readers. Our afternoon book discussion group is open to all adult readers, and meets the second Thursday of each month. Our next discussion is Aug. 12 at 2 p.m. We will discuss "Dreamers of the Day," by Mary Doria Russell.

Our evening book discussion group reads an eclectic mix of titles, and meets the fourth Wednesday of each month. Our next discussion is Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. We will discuss "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer.

Back to School "Function vs. Fashion"

Dr. Bobbi Taylor presents an informative program on the importance of purchasing the right backpack for back-to-school, and will help parents teach their children proper loading and carrying to protect their growing spines. Sign up is suggested for Aug. 12 at 7 p.m.

Learn about computers

New hands-on computer classes are now being offered. No registration is required; however you must have a ticket to be admitted to each hands-on class. Tickets will be passed out one-half hour prior to each class start time. Class size is strictly limited to 15 participants. The computer lab is funded through the grant of the Knight Foundation.

* Open Lab/Resume Lab -- Come with your questions and use the lab computers with an instructor present to answer your questions. Or, use our wizard-driven software to guide you through the steps of creating your resume (bring details of your work history with you). Aug. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m.

* Internet, Part 2 -- Learn how to make better use of search engine features for more successful Internet searching. Practice saving your favorite websites and printing Internet content. Prior Internet experience preferred. Aug. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m.

* Microsoft Word, Part 1 -- Learn to create documents using Microsoft Word 2007. Practice preparing files using document templates & use editing features to effectively revise documents. Familiarity with Microsoft Windows is preferred. Aug. 18 from 2 to 4 p.m.

* Microsoft PowerPoint, Part 1 -- Learn how to create and present slideshow presentations for work, school or personal use with PowerPoint 2007. Aug. 19, from 2 to 4 p.m.

* Microsoft Publisher, Part 1 -- Create business cards, greeting cards, flyers, and more! Learn the basics of creating professional looking publications with Publisher 2007. Aug. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Discuss a mystery

The Mystery Book Lovers discussion group is an informal group of adult mystery readers, meeting the third Wednesday of each month. Our next discussion is "Reader's Choice" of a Louise Penny mystery on Aug. 18 at 7 p.m.

Play some games

The library hosts a regular games meet-up each month, welcoming patrons who enjoy board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games, and collectible card games. We also have a number of games on hand for patrons to use. The next meet-up will be on Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join fellow local players - Sharpen your intellect - Enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments are served. No sign up is necessary.

For students going into grade 5 and up. Please sign up in advance.

For students in grade 5 and up, the first Thursday of each month at 3:30 p.m.. Please sign up in advance.

On Sept. 2, come in for our first Teen Café of the new school year and show us your moves with "Just Dance."
