University of Findley recognizes graduates

The following area residents earned degrees at The University of Findlay's spring commencement May 1:

Kelly Kontur, of Northfield Center, graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in pre-veterinary medicine. Kontur was also named to the dean's list, in addition to her pre-veterinary medicine major activities.

Kontur, a 2007 graduate of Aurora High School, is the daughter of Patty and Chris Kontur.

Macedonia resident Breanne Bowers graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in physical therapy.

Bowers has participated in Rotaract Club, Campus Program Board, Physical Therapy Organization, Colleges Against Cancer and equestrian team in addition to her physical therapy major activities.

Bowers, a 2006 graduate of Nordonia High School, is the daughter of Laurel Bowers of Macedonia and Allan Bowers of Sagamore Hills.

Leigh Ann Hiros, of Sagamore Hills, graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in occupational therapy. Hiros has participated in Rotaract Club, Student Occupational Therapy Association and has been named to the Dean's list in addition to her occupational therapy major activities.

Hiros, a 2006 graduate of Nordonia High School, is the daughter of Barbara Marr of Sagamore Hills and Tim Hiros.

Novak graduates from Denison University

Amy Katherine Novak was among the 519 graduates awarded diplomas at Denison University's 169th commencement held May 16.

Novak earned a bachelor of arts degree with a double major in English literature and religion. A dean's list student, Novak was awarded the Madelyn Lochard Endowed Scholarship, the Denison Alumni award, and the GAR Foundation Endowed Scholarship. She was a member of Sigma Tau Delta and the English Honor Society. Novak was also chosen as a Woodyard Summer Scholar, a member of WDUB Radio and the Denison Community Association, and attended The LeaderShape Institute in January 2010. She was also Editor and President of the Adytum Yearbook.

She is the daughter of Stephen Novak, of Macedonia, and Barbara Novak, of Walton Hills, and a 2006 graduate of Laurel School.

Zaun recognized at Mount Union

Macedonia resident Brittany Zaun was inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society at Mount Union College.

Zaun also was selected to be a sophomore service honorary, an honor based on the student's leadership, service and academics.

She has been active with Habitat for Humanity and served as the public relations chairperson for her sorority, Alpha Delta Pi, which devotes it's efforts to benefit the Ronald McDonald House.

She is a 2009 graduate of Nordonia High School and is the daughter of Richard and Wendy Zaun of Macedonia.

Smith on dean's list at Ohio Northern

Jeremy B. Smith, son of Kevin and Karen Smith of Macedonia, has been named to the Ohio Northern University dean's list for the spring 2010 quarter. He is a junior majoring in marketing.
