LifeBanc, a non-profit, organ and tissue recovery organization for Northeast Ohio, has awarded its 2010 Legacy of Life Award to Macedonia resident and television station NewsChannel 5 WEWS Sports Director Andy Baskin and his sister-in-law Beth Baskin, of Solon.

The award, presented April 29 at LifeBanc's Legacy of Life Luncheon, was created to honor heroes who have educated the public about organ and tissue donation and been a catalyst for the increase in the number of individuals designating their wishes as registered organ and tissue donors.

Andy and Beth Baskin are ambassadors for the mission of LifeBanc. Bruce Baskin, Andy's brother and Beth's husband, was a lung transplant recipient.

"The Baskin family can be defined as community champions taking steps to address obstacles and support initiatives that have impacted their lives first-hand," said Gordon Bowen, LifeBanc Chief Executive Officer.

The Baskins have become community advocates and spokespeople in support of organ and tissue donation and research to eradicate Cystic Fibrosis.

They share publicly the story of a generous life-changing gift and tell a story of one donor who gave them more time with their beloved brother and husband and the gift of a new heart to another in the neighboring hospital room.
