Police News: Woman charged, man wanted for $574 grocery theft

Northfield Center -- The Summit County Sheriff's Office arrested a Parma woman and issued a warrant for arrest for a Cleveland man July 28 after an employee of a Route 82 business reported the two left the store without paying for $574 in groceries.

According to Stow Municipal Court records, the two have been charged with fifth-degree felony theft. The 55-year-old woman did not enter a plea at her July 29 arraignment and was released from Summit County Jail on a personal bond. A warrant was still out for the 31-year-old man, as of Aug. 9, court records say.

According to a sheriff's report, the employee stopped the woman outside the store, but the man fled in a vehicle, leaving the groceries behind.

Arrest warrant

Aug. 5. Man wanted by Bedford Heights police: The Summit County Sheriff's Office turned a Fairhaven Drive man over to Bedford Heights police after determining during a traffic stop that he was wanted for failing to appear in court on a traffic offense.

A sheriff's deputy cited the man around 6 p.m. after he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at Fairhaven and Crestwood Lane.

Domestic violence

Aug. 5. Girl allegedly assaulted sister: A 13-year-old township girl was charged in Summit County Juvenile Court with first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence after the girl's mother alleged the girl held a pillow over her 6-year-old sister's face. According to a Summit County Sheriff's report, the sister was not injured. The older girl was taken to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.

Property damage

Aug. 4. Lawn ornament dragged across yard: A Kenwick Drive woman reported someone dragged a $200 decorative electric lantern across her front lawn, damaging it, during the night.

Driving under suspension

Aug. 5. Man stopped on Elm Avenue at 4:20 p.m.: Police charged a Norton man, 48, with driving under suspension after they determined through a random check of his license plate number that his license was suspended. The man was given a Northfield Village Mayor's Court date and released on a personal bond.

Arrest warrant

Aug. 4. Man arrested at home: Police arrested a McKinley Avenue man, 33, at his home. According to the report, the man was wanted by the Ashland County Sheriff's Office on two counts of felony operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Police said the man was uncooperative, screaming at police and refusing to obey orders, so they charged him with second-degree misdemeanor obstructing official business before turning him over to the sheriff's office.

Theft

Aug. 3. Rings taken from garage shelf: A North Plaza Drive woman reported someone took two rings of unspecified value from a shelf in her garage. The woman said she took the rings off while waxing her car July 10 and did not realize they were missing until more than two weeks later.

Drug paraphernalia

Aug. 1. Men charged after traffic stop: Police charged a Macedonia man, 18, and Cleveland man, 19, with fourth-degree misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession on Route 8 about 3:30 p.m. A village police officer reported he saw the Cleveland man leaning out of his car's side window because his windshield was too badly cracked to see through.

The Cleveland man was also charged with driving an unsafe vehicle and the Macedonia man with marijuana possession, both minor misdemeanors.

Police said that while speaking to the men, they smelled marijuana and saw marijuana seed scattered around the car's interior. Police said they found a marijuana pipe in the vehicle and a scale and a small amount of marijuana in a bag on the Macedonia man.

Both men were given Northfield Village Mayor's Court dates and released on $100 bonds.
