Fall Soccer registration begins

Register now through Aug. 13.

League play for boys and girls age 4 to 14 years will start in late August and ends in late October. Children must be born before Aug. 1, 2006 to play. All boys' and girls' league U10 to U14 teams will play some games at area communities. The U6 and U8 league will play in-house. Most games will be played on Saturdays with practices on weekdays. Shinguards and socks covering them are required and soccer cleats are recommended. The deadline to register is Aug. 13.

Fee per participant: Program $60, resident $50. Additional sibling: Program $45, resident $35.

Sign up for flag football

League play for kids ages 5 to 11 who want to learn or enhance football skills will be divided into divisions based on age groups. The season is Aug. 30 to Oct. 16. Practices are determined by the coach. Once season begins, practices will be limited to one night a week with a game on the weekend. Rookie and Pro games start at 2 p.m. and All Star games start at 10 a.m. The deadline to register is Aug. 16.

Fee per participant: Program $45, resident $40.

RadKids teaches safety skills

Give your child age 8 to 12 the tools and techniques to recognize and deal with dangerous situations they may encounter.

Through the nationally acclaimed RadKIDS Program, kids are empowered with the skills to do just that. Hands-on exercises teach students physical techniques to escape abduction, and promote children's self-confidence in using them.

This program is Aug. 16 to 20 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Don't just tell your kids to be safe. teach them, or how will they know? No drop ins. No coupons. Register before Aug. 12.

Fee per participant: Program $80, resident $70, member $60.

Annual Dog Swim and Parade set

Celebrate the dog days of summer at the Macedonia Rec's annual Dog Swim Aug. 22. Spot and Rover can frolic to their heart's content in our pool from 3:30 to 5:45 p.m. Bring your best friend and his or her favorite retrievable toy and spend a fun afternoon with fellow dog lovers.

Dogs under 30 lbs. swim from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Dogs over 30 lbs. swim from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m.

Fee per dog: Program $5, Macedonia resident $4, member $3.

See a movie in the park

This program will be Aug. 13 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Longwood Park at Baseball Field A

This will be a fun, free family event featuring the movie "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel." Open to all; movie begins at dusk.

Bring chairs or blankets. Free Chic-fil-A sandwiches, popcorn and sno-cones while supply last. Three chances to win Chic-fil-A for a year. Rain date is Aug. 20.

Maintenance closure scheduled

Macedonia Family Recreation Center will close at 6 p.m. on Aug. 22 for annual maintenance (pool areas will close at 3 p.m.) and reopen on Aug. 30 at 5:30 p.m.
