Our evening book discussion group reads an eclectic mix of titles, and meets the fourth Wednesday of each month. Our next discussion is Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. We will discuss "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer.

Join us for some great conversation with your fellow Nordonia Hills readers. Our afternoon book discussion group is open to all adult readers, and meets the second Thursday of each month. Our next discussion is Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. We will discuss "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society," by Mary Ann Shaffer.

Have back to school fun

After School Club is for children in kindergarten through second grade. We'll read some stories and do a fun craft together Sept. 1 at 4:30 p.m. Please sign up.

Learn how money works

Financial adviser Rick Rupert will discuss financial planning and money management on Sept. 1 at 7 p.m.

Music class offered

For children through age 5. This high energy music and movement program allows siblings to attend together in a single developmentally appropriate, play-based class. Caregivers attend with children as we focus on providing a positive learning environment with lots of singing, dancing, jumping, and instrument play. Comfortable clothes are recommended for kids and adults alike as we'll all be joining in the fun.

This program is being offered thanks to the First Chair Music Programs on Sept. 2 at 10 and 11 a.m. Please sign up for one class only.

Visit Teen Café

For students going into grade 5 and up on the first Thursday of each month at 3:30 p.m. On Sept. 2, come in for our first Teen Café of the new school year and show us your moves with Just Dance. Please sign up in advance.

Nordonia Hills Scrapbookers meet

Attention avid scrapbookers! Looking for space to s-p-r-e-a-d o-u-t for the whole day? Experienced and newbies alike invited to this all-day crop! Bring your gear, a lunch, and a friend! New faces are always welcome on Sept. 4 from 10:15 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Discuss life at Socrates Café

Socrates Café Sept. 8 at 6:30 p.m., a regular gathering of adults engaging in great conversation, exploring current events, thoughtful ideas, and reasoned debates. Come and take part, or just listen to the discussion! For all patrons 16 and over. No sign up necessary - No homework - No assigned reading.

Friends of the Library planning book sale

The Friends of Nordonia Hills Branch Library will hold their book sale Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A $3 bag sale begins at 2 p.m.

The library is now accepting donations of gently used hardback and paperback books, video and audio recordings. No magazines, Reader's Digest condensed books, textbooks, or encyclopedias are accepted.

The preview sale for Friends members is Sept. 10, from 1 to 6 p.m. Memberships starting at $5 may be purchased at the door. You must be a member to attend. Please note: Entry numbers will be handed out beginning at noon.

Discuss light fiction

Do you like to talk about the books you read and enjoy? Then join us the second Monday of each month at 2 p.m. for reader-to-reader book discussions, fun, and sharing with fellow light fiction lovers. In September, we'll be reading "Up Island" by Anne Rivers Siddons. Please join us on Sept. 13 at 2 p.m.

Historical presenter Paul Goebbel presents the railroad journey of President-elect Abraham Lincoln's inaugural trip to Washington D.C. Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.

Stitch Clique to meet

The Mystery Book Lovers discussion group is an informal group of adult mystery readers, meeting the third Wednesday of each month. Our next discussion is "Reader's Choice" of a Louise Penny mystery, on Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.

It's Nordonia Hills Game Time!

The library hosts a regular games "meet-up" each month, welcoming patrons who enjoy: board games, cards, chess, role-playing, war games, and collectible card games. We also have a number of games on hand for patrons to use. The next meet-up will be Sept. 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join fellow local players -- Sharpen your intellect -- Enjoy the social aspects of games. Refreshments are served. No sign up is necessary.

Beneficial insects the topic of discussion

Come and join Master Gardener Lee Paulson as we examine the fascinating world of beneficial" insects and learn how they help to maintain the balance of nature in our back yards on Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m.

* Baby Time is for children 6 to 24 months old with a parent or caregiver.

Our programs feature bounces, songs, and stories. Please sign up for only one of these days: Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 21 to Oct. 5 and Oct. 19 to Nov. 2 or Thursdays at 1 p.m. from Sept. 30 to Nov. 4.

* Bedtime Story Time is for children 2 to 5 years olds, with 2-year-olds accompanied by a parent or caregiver, on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. from Sept. 22 to Oct. 6 and Oct. 20 to Nov. 3.

Solve a mystery

A crime has been committed, and the suspect is among us. Bring your thinking cap, and your investigative skills to the fourth-annual murder mystery, "Requiem for a Reader." Interactive social story line means you could be the chief inspector ... or the prime suspect. The event will be Sept. 24 from 6 to 9 p.m. Sign up is required, beginning Aug. 31. Participants must have tickets, but tickets are free.
