Macedonia — Two city men are in jail in connection with an alleged Aug. 17 robbery at knifepoint of a man at a Highland Road motel.

According to Stow Municipal Court records, the cases of Preserve Lane resident Deeffridge T. Stevens, 19, and Vintage Lane resident Khalil G. Slayton, 18, were sent to a Summit County grand jury Aug. 26 after they did not enter pleas to first-degree felony aggravated robbery charges.

Stevens and Slayton were being held in Summit County Jail on $100,000 bonds as of Aug. 30. Their attorneys did not return call before press time.

According to a police report, a Texas man staying at the Knights Inn was standing outside his room smoking a cigarette a little after 1 a.m. when two men approached him.

The man said one of them held a knife to his throat and asked him for his wallet. He told police he pointed to where his wallet was in his room and the other man went in and got it.

The man said the two men then ran away with his wallet.

He chased them around a corner, saw them get into a car parked at a nearby service station and called police from the motel’s office.

According to police, the wallet contained $190, a credit card, bank card and identification.

Police Lt. Vince Yakopovich said that during an investigation, police determined the credit card had been used at two area businesses. Yakopovich said police recognized Stevens and Slayton on security video from the businesses at the time the purchases were made, as well as motel video about the time of the robbery.

Yakopovich said both men were arrested Aug. 24. Stevens was arrested at Stow Municipal Court, where he was doing community service. Slayton was arrested at Northfield Village Mayor’s Court, where he was appearing on an unrelated misdemeanor charge.
