Northfield Center — About 150 graduates of Northfield, Macedonia and Northfield-Macedonia high schools gathered for their annual reunion at Gambitta’s Party Center in Northfield Center on July 31.
Karen Ramsey (Northfield-Macedonia Class of ’57), one of the reunion organizers, said 152 former classmates and their guests attended the party. This year, the oldest attendees were three individuals who had graduated from the Northfield High School Class of 1936. Another attendee was a Macedonia High School Class of 1944 graduate.
“Everyone seemed to have a good time,” Ramsey said. “The food was great, the room was so well decorated.”
Esther Eary (Northfield Class of ’36), said her two classmates in attendance included Dave Thomas and Robert Townsing.
“It was really, really nice. It was very well-planned and the dinner was nice and so were the speeches,” she said. “I had a wonderful time. It was great to see a lot of people who I haven’t seen in a long time.”
Classmates came from across the country, as far away as Texas, California and Florida.
“We also had people from Michigan, Pennsylfania, North Carolina. One man came from Oklahoma — they were from everywhere. It was amazing,” Ramsey said.
Other organizers included Bernadette Hannaford and Peg Sams (both members of the Northfield-Macedonia Class of 1957), Kurt (Northfield-Macedonia Class of ’59) and Mary Lou (Northfield-Macedonia Class of ’61) Laubinger, Nancy English (Northfield-Macedonia Class of ’59), Nancy Klatt (Northfield-Macedonia Class of ’59) and Barbara Stelma (Northfield-Macedonia Class of ’61).
The class of 1960, which was celebrating their 50th reunion, had a table full of memorabilia.
The class reunions have been ongoing for 29 years, Ramsey said.
Participants end with the class of 1962, which is the year before the Northfield-Macedonia school district’s name changed to Nordonia Hills.
Ramsey said next year’s reunion has been scheduled for July 30, 2011 at the same venue.
