Northfield Village -- With summer's end approaching, area residents are invited to enjoy the warm weather and have some fun.

Summit Plaza off Route 8 is hosting a carnival for the second year in a row on Sept. 10, 11, and 12.

Carnival coordinator Mandi Wetherell said the carnival is sponsored by Plaza Management, the shopping center's owner, and Nordonia Hills Day Care.

"We're going to make it a community carnival," said Wetherell. "We had pretty good success with it last year."

The carnival will run from 4 to 10 p.m. Sept. 10, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 11 and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 12.

As last year, the carnival will feature the "Nordonia Idol" talent show for area singers, with tryouts scheduled to take place Sept. 10 and 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. The final competition will be Sept. 12 at 4 p.m.

Wetherell said Mayor Victor Milani will be one of the judges.

Wetherell said that Canton-based Sams Amusements will again be supplying most of the attractions, including rides, bounce houses, an inflatable children's slide, a tall slide, a children's rock climbing wall, games, food concessions, and a "southern rock" band. She said rides will include a carousel and a "kiddie coaster."

"[Sams] got some new children's rides this year," said Wetherell.

In addition, she said, local restaurants will also be supplying food and two bands, made up of Nordonia High School students, will be performing.

Wetherell said that businesses and organizations interested in setting up a booth at the carnival can call her at 216-322-1604.
