Boston Heights — Three candidates are competing for two at-large seats on Village Council.
Glen R. Blakeney Sr., James D. Hudson and write-in candidate Ron Antal seek four year terms on the Nov. 8 ballot.
Hudson, of Olde 8 Road, did not respond to phone messages.
Blakeney, 54, of Sholle Drive, has been an instructor for the Summit County Board of Development Disability for 13 years. He is a member of the Fairview Cemetery Association and was president for one year.
His wife, Dawn, is a current Village Council member.
Blakeney said he has attended all Council and finance meetings for the past two years and sat on different committee meetings to learn about village issues.
“I want to keep and maintain green space of the village and preserve the small-town atmosphere,” Blakeney said.
He said the village faces many changes in the months ahead.
“I feel that in the hard economic times and all times, it is the responsibility of our local government officials to find ways to be fiscally responsible, balance our budget and live within our means,” Blakeney said.
Antal, 46, of Meghans Lane, is managing director of Research Credit Group and a certified public accountant. His wife is Dr. Neera Agarwal-Antal.
He says he will bring a financial background to Council and is running to provide new ideas for Boston Heights.
“I’m concerned about [alleged] nepotism which exists among current Council members and the safety forces,” Antal said.
Antal said he wants to look at controlling costs for police, fire and safety services.
“I want to examine all aspects of the police, fire and safety funds and if they’re being spent effectively and wisely,” Antal said.
