Macedonia -- Mayor Don Kuchta earned more in contributions and spent more on his campaign than his competitor, Sam Pilato, according to campaign finance reports the two candidates filed Oct. 25.

According to the pre-general election reports, filed with the Summit County Board of Elections, Kuchta garnered $20,555 in monetary contributions for the period ending Oct. 17. Expenditures were $18,115, according to the report.

Pilato earned $1,940 in contributions and loaned his campaign a total of $2,100. Pilato campaign expenditures were $2,064, including about $1,300 for yard signs, according to the report.

According to Kuchta's report, the majority of his contributions -- around $19,000 -- came from his September 2007 golf outing. That event cost $7,800 to put on, according to the report.

A January winter social event generated $1,375, but cost $2,900 according to the report.

The largest contribution to Kuchta's campaign was made by Simon Caplan, of Independence. Caplan donated $1,520 at the golf outing.

Other Nordonia Hills area candidates who filed reports included Sagamore Hills Fiscal Officer candidate Scott Gale, who loaned his campaign $2,459 and spent the entire amount, according to the report.

Also filing is Macedonia Council Candidate Nick Molnar, who wrote he contributed $738 worth of yard signs and $2,030 in legal services to his campaign, according to the report.
