Macedonia -- A Cleveland man did not enter a plea in Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court May 8 to charges stemming from the alleged attempted theft of a computer from a Macedonia Commons Boulevard store the previous day.
According to court records, Carl D. Walker, 26, was charged with third-degree felony robbery and fifth-degree felony theft. In addition, he pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree misdemeanor giving false information to police and second-degree misdemeanor resisting arrest, obstruction and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Walker was being held in Summit County Jail on a $2,000 bond May 12 and is scheduled for a May 15 pretrial hearing.
According to a police report, a store employee said he saw Walker about to take the desktop computer, along with some rolls of paper towels and candy in a shopping cart, out the front doors without paying the $748 owed. When the employee stopped Walker and asked him for a receipt, Walker said he did not have one and the employee put his hand on Walker's arm to stop him from leaving. Walker allegedly shoved the employee and ran out of the store without the merchandise.
Responding officers reported seeing Walker running along the side of Macedonia Commons Boulevard, and caught him. A suspected drug pipe was found on Walker, the report said.
Police Lt. Vince Yakopovich said neither police nor Walker were injured in the struggle. The falsification charge was filed after police alleged Walker gave false identification, Yakopovich said.
