The Nordonia High School girls track and field team lost to both Twinsburg and Stow during the regular season, and unfortunately, the Knights finished behind the Tigers and the Bulldogs at the recent Northeast Ohio Conference (NOC) Meet.
The NOC Meet was May 15 and 17 at Twinsburg High School.
Twinsburg won the event with 175 points, while Stow finished second with 101 points. The Knights were third with 80 points.
Nordonia did notch a first-place finish, though. Jenna Gura finished first in the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 16.49.
"We're really happy with Jenna's performance," said Nordonia head coach Ron Gura. "She's the conference champion in the 100 hurdles, and she can still get better."
Stephanie Skrovan placed second in two individual events for the Knights -- the shot put with a heave of 34-feet-1.5 and the discus with a throw of 105-3.
Lauren Bokovitz was also third. She accomplished the feat in the high jump with a height of 4-10.
Two of Nordonia's relay teams placed third, as well. They were the 400 squad of Gura, Cara Boliantz, Cally Rahal and Kaitlin Mabin (50.49) and the 800 contingent of Gura, Michelle Scott, Rahal and Boliantz (1:48.7).
Mabin was also third in the 100. After running a time of 12.86 in the semifinal heat, she clocked in at 12.99 in the finals of the event.
In addition, Boliantz finished fourth in two individual events. They were the 200 (26.46) and the 400 (60.68).
Not only did Jessica Grams finish fourth in an event, the 3200, she also set a new school record by producing a time of 12:12.37.
Two other Knights placed fourth. They were Lila Martis in the high jump (4-10) and Bokovitz in the 100 (14.43 in the semifinals and 17.55 in the finals).
Rahal finished fifth in two individual events -- the 100 with a time of 13.26 and the 200 with an effort of 27.42.
According to coach Gura, there weren't any major surprises at the NOC Meet, including the Knights' third-place finish.
"Everything went pretty much how we thought it was going to happen," he said. "We were down a couple of girls who were sick, and that affected the relays somewhat, but other than that, we had a lot of good times. The girls who placed in the meet are the ones who have been placing for us all season and leading the way."
