Sagamore Hills -- A 38-year-old Beachwood man is facing a felony vandalism charge after police said he kicked a township police car's window after being arrested May 4.
According to Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court records, the man did not enter a plea to the fifth-degree felony charge and pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct and resisting arrest charges May 5.
According to a report, police responded to an anonymous tip that the man was causing a disturbance at a Route 82 restaurant. When police arrived at about 12:45 a.m., they said they found him intoxicated in the restaurant's parking lot screaming obscenities at patrons. Police said that after warning the man to calm down, they struggled with him as they put him into handcuffs. After getting him into the back of the car, police said he hit his head on the door when he lunged at it as an officer was closing it.
Police said the man began banging his head against the window and the metal barrier between the back and front seats, then kicked the window, knocking it off its track and bending the track.
Police said that after waiting about 10 minutes for the man to calm down enough for Northfield Center Fire Department personnel to examine a cut over his eye, the man was taken to the Sagamore Hills Medical Center for treatment. He was then taken to the Summit County Jail.
The man was released on a $250 bond May 6 and was scheduled for a May 19 pretrial hearing.

May 17. Woman discovers toilet paper in yard: A McNeil Drive woman reported that while she was out during the evening, someone spread toilet paper around her front yard and smeared an unspecified amount of ice cream and cupcakes on her driveway and garage door.
Police said there were no suspects or witnesses.

under the influence
May 12. Man stopped for weaving: A 29-year-old Lakewood man pleaded not guilty in Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court May 19 to operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, a first-degree misdemeanor, and failing to maintain lanes of travel and operating without reasonable control, both minor misdemeanors.
Police said they stopped the man on Canyonview Road at about 6 p.m. He was released from Summit County Jail on a $50 bond May 15 and is scheduled for a May 29 pretrial hearing.

Domestic violence
May 12. Man accused of slapping wife: A Highland Road man, 29, pleaded not guilty to first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence in Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court May 13 after his wife reported the day before that he had slapped her in the side of the head while she was on the phone. Police said a neighbor witnessed the incident.
According to municipal court records, the man was released from Macedonia City Jail May 14 on a $1,000 bond. He was scheduled for a May 23 trial.
Theft
May 21. Change stolen from home: A Broadledge Road man reported someone broke into his home during the day and took a small plastic wastepaper basket containing about $300 in change. The man said he discovered a window in a rear garage door was broken and he believes that was the entry point. Police said they are investigating.
May 16. Bank card used to make purchases: A man reported someone used his bank card to make a $248 purchase from a Macedonia Commons Boulevard business and a second purchase of an unknown amount from a Route 82 service station. The man said the card had been missing about two days. Police are investigating.
May 14. Camcorders stolen from store: Police are investigating the theft of seven digital camcorders, totaling about $830 in value, from a Macedonia Commons Boulevard store. A store employee reported that another employee found two empty camcorder boxes in the girl's clothing section May 8. On May 13, the employee said, another empty camcorder box was discovered, and on May 14, four more boxes were found.
Police said store video security footage showed an unidentified man and woman in the electronics section at about the time it is believed the May 8 thefts took place.
May 13. Manhole cover stolen: An employee of a Highland Road business reported someone took a $150 manhole cover from the business' parking lot in the previous few days.
May 9. Man wanted in fraudulent return of safety seat: The Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court issued a warrant May 12 for the arrest of a 42-year-old Akron man after an employee of a Route 82 business reported the man had fraudulently returned a $148 child safety seat.
The employee said the man did not have a receipt when he returned the seat, but presented a photo identification that appeared to be legitimate. The employee said store video security footage later showed that prior to returning the seat, the man had entered the store empty handed. The employee said store credit issued to the man was rescinded.
Property damage
May 16. Pickup truck windows smashed: A construction foreman working on the Route 8 road project reported someone threw rocks at his pickup truck while it was in a temporary construction yard, shattering the front and a side window, The foreman said nothing was missing.
May 12. Swimming pool damaged: A Brookpoint Drive man reported someone apparently fired several pellets into the side of his above-ground swimming pool during the winter. The man said he discovered small holes in the side of the pool while he was cleaning it. A damage amount was not specified.
April 27. Fish killed with soap: A Ledge Acres Road woman reported someone poured soap into a pond in her front yard in the previous days. The soap killed six fish, according to the report.
