Police News: Police charge men found on elementary school roof

Macedonia -- Police charged a North Bedford Road man, 20, and a Shepard Hills Boulevard man, 18, in Macedonia Mayor's Court with criminal trespassing after police said the two men were caught on the roof of Ledgeview Elementary School May 26.

The North Bedford man was also charged with underage possession of alcohol, a first-degree misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor; and marijuana possession, a minor misdemeanor.

According to a police report, an anonymous person reported the two men were on the roof at about 8:30 p.m. Because Macedonia police were tied up with another call, two Twinsburg police officers responded and arrested the men.

Police said the North Bedford man claimed ownership of a plastic soda bottle containing vodka, a suspected marijuana pipe and a small amount of suspected marijuana that police found on the roof.

Police said the Shepard Hills man was released from Macedonia City Jail later that evening on a $150 bond. The North Bedford man was released the next morning on a $500 bond.

Threats

May 27. Threats made from car: A man reported that while walking his dog on Highland Road at about 3:30 p.m., someone yelled insults and threats from a passing car. The man said he was unable to get a license plate number.

Property damage

May 27. Graffiti found on business: An employee of a South Freeway Drive business reported someone spray-painted the numbers "531" on the front of the building in the previous days. A police report did not include an explanation for the numbers.

May 26. Window broken at home: A Crow Drive woman reported that while she and her husband were out for the evening, someone shattered a rear window of their home. Police said a screen over the window was undamaged and it appeared no one entered the home.

Arrest warrant

May 25. Man stopped after police check: Police said they stopped a 34-year-old Cleveland man in a Macedonia Commons parking lot after they determined he was wanted by Bedford Municipal Court for failing to appear in court on misdemeanor charges of failure to reinstate a driver's license and driving without headlights.

Police said they smelled marijuana in the car and the man admitted to having a small amount of marijuana in his shoe. The man was cited for minor misdemeanor drug possession and released to Warrensville Heights police, who filed the municipal court charges.

Theft

May 25. Woman reports theft at motel: A woman staying at a Highland Road motel reported someone took $30 from a wallet in her room while she was visiting friends in another room. Police are investigating.

May 19. Woman reports unauthorized charges: A woman reported someone used her bank card information to make 10 unauthorized charges, totaling about $573, between May 10 and 13. The matter is under investigation.

Disturbance

May 22. Man hears explosion outside home: A Lawton Drive man reported that after hearing a loud explosion outside his home the night before, he found a badly damaged 2-liter plastic bottle in his front yard containing chunks of aluminum foil. Police said they believe it was the remains of an explosive device made with drain cleaner. No suspects or witnesses were reported. Police said there was no property damage.

Motor vehicle accident

May 28. Man, woman back into each other: No injuries or citations were reported after a man and woman reported they struck the rear of each other's vehicles while backing out of parking spaces at a Golden Link Boulevard business at about 3 p.m. A police report described the damage to both vehicles as "light."

Theft

May 27. Tools stolen from van: A man reported someone took numerous tools, worth $480, from his unlocked van while it was in the parking lot of a Golden Link Boulevard business for about an hour in the early evening. Police said there were no witnesses.

Driving under suspension

May 27. Man wanted by Barberton police: A 20-year-old Akron man was charged with driving under suspension, a first-degree misdemeanor, and speeding. The man was given a June 3 Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court date, then turned over to Barberton police, who wanted the man for failing to appear in Barberton Municipal Court on a driving under suspension charge.

Property damage

May 27. Windows of construction vehicles smashed: Employees of two construction companies reported someone smashed windows on two construction vehicles while they were parked near Route 8 and Twinsburg Road in the previous few days.

An employee of an Akron company reported a $900 window was smashed in a vehicle owned by the company. An employee of an Independence company reported two, $300 windows in a vehicle were smashed.

Domestic violence

May 22. Wife reports husband pushed her: A 32-year-old township man was charged with first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence after his wife alleged he pushed her during an argument.

According to a Summit County Sheriff's Office report, the wife had a red mark on the side of her neck, but she declined treatment. The man pleaded not guilty to the charge in Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court and released from Summit County Jail on a personal bond the next day. He is scheduled for a June 6 pretrial hearing.

Law enforcement

May 15. Deputy stops man on Route 8: A man, 45, was charged with illegally displaying a police emblem, a minor misdemeanor, after a Summit County Sheriff's deputy saw a
Fraternal Order of Police emblem on the man's rear license plate.

The deputy stopped the man after conducting a computer check of his license plate number and determining the man was not a police officer and therefore not allowed to display the Fraternal Order of Police emblem under state law.

The man was given a June 2 Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court date and released.
