Ice Cream Social to feature blood drive, sale, concert

July 30, 2008

The Olde Northfield Preservation Association will host this years annual ice cream social Aug. 3 from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Northfield Center Town Hall.

This will be the fifth year that the Association has hosted the ice cream social, which takes place in conjunction with the concert in the park series.

The concert in the park begins at 6 and features "The Katch Band" sponsored by Realty One of Northfield Center.

Residents young and old are invited to stop by the town hall to enjoy ice cream cones, sundaes, floats, hot dogs and nachos and cheese.

Balloons, face painting, sand art and clowns will amuse our younger residents and everyone is invited to stop by the TOPS 1174 tent for the group's open house, treasure sale and 50/50 raffle.

The Olde Northfield Preservation Association is also honoring local heroes by joining with the American Red Cross to help save lives.

"Badges For Blood," a summer blood drive sponsored by the association, is scheduled for Aug. 3 at Northfield Center Town Hall from noon to 5 p.m. during the ice cream social.

All donors will receive a T-shirt and ice cream cone.

All those who donate through Sept. 1 will also be entered in a drawing to win free gas for a year (a $3,000 value.) Five additional winners will each receive a $500 gas card.

According to the Northern Ohio Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross, the region is experiencing a critical blood shortage and is struggling to maintain an ample blood supply.

Eligible donors are urged to donate now.

Eligible blood and platelet donors who cannot donate Aug. 3 should call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE or visit RedCrossDonor.org to find a blood drive.

Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.

Donors must show a state identification card or Red Cross donor card upon donation.

Donors may safely give whole blood every 56 days.

Anyone needing further information regarding the ice cream social or any of the activities planned for the day are asked to contact Dawn at 330-467-8551.
