Sagamore Hills -- Depending on what voters decide Nov. 3, the township's Board of Trustees could have a new member.
Incumbents Richard Barrett and Rose Mary Snell are being challenged by local businessman John Zaccardelli, 48, for a four-year term that will begin Jan. 1.
Barrett, 69, is running for third term. He is a retired steel industry executive, now a self-employed consultant, who has lived in the township for about 40 years.
He said he is proud of the Board's oversight of township finances.
"For the past eight years, we've kept a balanced budget," he said. "We've been in the black and we want to remain in the black.
"Over the next four years, I won't vote for any increases in property taxes," Barrett added.
Snell, 70, is running for a fifth term. She is a retired real estate agent and currently serves on the Summit County Planning Commission and the county's solid waste authority board.
She is also the township's representative to the Cuyahoga Valley Regional Council of Governments and a member of the Ohio Public Works Commission.
"Sagamore Hills is financially secure than we have ever been," said Snell. "I will continue to ensure that our community is safe, stable and secure. I'll keep an eye on our budget and continue to apply for state and country funding."
Zaccardelli, 48, operates with his brother Blue Line Design, Inc., an architectural design and drafting firm founded by their now-retired father in Northfield Center in 1969.
Zaccardelli has lived in Nordonia Hills since 1963 and has lived in the township since 1992.
"The current Board has built a solid foundation of local government," said Zaccardelli. "They have paved the way for the next generation."
"It's time for a positive change. I will also bring business experience, fresh ideas, integrity and fiscal responsibility to the Board."
