Macedonia City Council will go from six to five members Jan. 1, 2014.
That was among the charter amendments that city voters approved Tuesday, according to final, but unofficial results from the Summit County Board of Elections.
Voters approved Issue 21, an amendment to the city charter that will reduce the number of Councilors from six to five and eliminate the mayor's power to break tie votes 2,050-1,122, according to final, but unofficial results.
Two other charter amendments passed by similar margins:
* Issue 22, which passed 1,915-1,153, would eliminate the right of police and fire chiefs to return to a lower rank if they are fired or resign; and
* Issue 23, which passed 1,969-1,044, would change the title of "chief building official" to "building commissioner."
Pricinct A voters also approved Issue 24 by a margin of 263-180. The measure allows Walmart in the Macedonia Commons shopping center to sell wine and mixed beverages on Sundays.
