Swim for Diabetes
coming to area

The 25th annual Verizon Wireless Swim for Diabetes event is scheduled to take place at 55 indoor pools throughout northeast Ohio.

Local Olympian Diana Munz and her coach Jerry Holtrey are the honorary co-chairs.

The event is scheduled to take place at the following locations:

* University of Akron Ocasek Natatorium: April 30 from 4 to 7 p.m.; May 1 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; and May 2 from noon-5 p.m.

* Natatorium in Cuyahoga Falls: May 16 from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

* Life Center Plus: May 14 from 5-9 p.m.; and May 15-16 from 2-6 p.m.

* Macedonia Family Recreation Center: May 16 from noon-3 p.m.

* Akron General Lifestyles-North: May 15 from 3-6 p.m.

* Twinsburg Fitness Center: May 16 from 8 a.m. to noon

Individuals of all ages and abilities can participate in this event and have an opportunity to earn prizes.

Participate by swimming laps, walking in or around the water or stay dry and make a donation.

Register online and develop a personal fundraising page on www.swimfordiabetes.com to start collecting donations.

Everyone who raises $65 or more will receive a commemorative Verizon Wireless Swim for Diabetes T-shirt.

Participants who raise $100 and turn their pledges in by May 21 (postmarked May 20) will receive a free lower level ticket to Swim for Diabetes Night to watch interleague play as the Cleveland Indians take on the Washington Nationals June 12.
