It is fantastic when good people do the right thing simply because it is right.
We have two children currently at Northfield Elementary and one that has moved up to Lee Eaton. When all the changes where being made through-out the district two years ago we weren't sure what to expect. The excellent rating they have received shows that they are providing an outstanding education, which on its own is commendable. To top it all, we are thrilled to find that the students are now saying the Pledge during morning announcements. Congrats to those responsible for acknowledging the importance of this "oversight". It had previously been left to each teacher to decide. It was explained once that the state does not mandate that it has to be said - I didn't realize it required a mandate to Pledge Allegiance to our country. Many kids probably had never said the Pledge, others may not have even known all the words. While it is realistic that many children will not understand the full meaning of the Pledge until they are older, if they never learn it then they will never grow to appreciate it.
Again, thank you for those who still do the right thing simply because it's right.
