Manta Rays Shine in Chagrin Valley Invitational

Manta Rays swim team of the Macedonia Recreation Center participated in the 41st Annual Chagrin Valley Invitational Relay Meet on July 17, 2010. The purpose is described as "a fun meet designed to maximize swimmer participation and to enable swimmers to win awards and to have close exciting races as a relay team." Fourteen teams with 650 swimmers participated in an all day meet featuring 133 yd relays for each event. Sixteen swimmers from Manta Rays participated in a total of 20 relays guided by coach Amy Reville. The preliminary heats were run through the morning and into the afternoon with swimmers cheering each other on to make the finals. The top eight teams in each event qualified for the evening finals. All sixteen swimmers qualified for the finals in 16 of the 20 relays entered.
The girl's medley relay team of Katie Farley, Hannah Wintucky, Carly Dean and Christina McFarland earned Gold Medals. Farley, one of the team captains, was "thrilled to get first place in the medley" and exclaimed that "this is my best season". The girl's breast stroke relay Silver was captured by Sara Vrabel, Missy Bleich, Hannah Wintucky, and Gabby Yonkers. Sara Vrabel, another captain, remarked that the Invitational was "a fun event, nice to do relays with the little kids and still compete." Bronze Medals came home with the mixed medley team of David Tanczos, David Malkin, Christina McFarland and Gabby Yonkers. David Tanczos, also team captain described the day succinctly as "Fun, nice to see everyone and hang out with everyone."
Other swimmers that brought home ribbons were Alexya Patz, Seth Bloom, Sam Losi, Josh Shahidian, Nick Tanczos, Michael Bleich, and Nick Wiemer.
Manta Rays season in the Splash League has earned them an 8 to 1 record to date with Reville and her assistant coaches Mallory Kavan and Kayleigh Wlosowicz. The Championships will be held in Wooster July 24th.
