Ohio Attorney General Representative to Speak to U.S. Marine Corp Support Group
(CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio) "Learn the latest scams targeting our military population. Find out what they are and how to guard against them on Sunday, September 12, when a representative from Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray's office speaks to the United States Marine Corp Family and Friends of Summit County.
Scams tend to increase during tough economic times, according to Attorney General Cordray. Active duty military are particularly vulnerable because they are often young, have a steady income, are isolated from family members and frequently relocate. To help the military community protect itself from fraud, a representative from Attorney General Cordray's office will discuss common scams and answer questions about consumer rights.
The Ohio Attorney General's office serves as a strong advocate for military consumers who are victimized by unfair and deceptive business practices. Consumer protection efforts at the state, multi-state and federal levels have achieved landmark settlements and millions of dollars in civil penalties and restitution for Ohioans.
The office also provides consumer and business education, as well as a complaint resolution process to resolve disputes between consumers and businesses. In 2009, the office received more than 30,000 consumer complaints and returned $3 million to consumers who had filed complaints.
