Services were Jan. 3 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman for Sagamore Hills resident Joseph C. Amato. Mr. Amato, 91, died Dec. 26 at University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center in Beachwood.
Mr. Amato was born May 3, 1921, in Cleveland to Liborio and Grace Amato, both deceased.
He was a retired hairdresser and property manager. He was the husband of Pat N. (nee Mathis) and the father of Wm. Mathis Hale (Donna) and Lisa Hale Coody (Jesse). Mr. Amato was the brother of Leo Amato, Rose Sanguedolce and Mary Juliano. He had three grandchildren and was an uncle to three generations of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Amato was an avid golfer with three holes-in-one to his credit. For many years he did meticulous woodworking, especially making moveable toys for the many children of his family and friends. He was a World War II Army artillery veteran.
The family suggests contributions in Mr. Amato's name be made to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Suite 800, Washington D.C. 20004.
