Visitor's center closed for maintenance April 4

The visitors center at F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm, 1828 Smith Road in Akron, will be closed April 4 for seasonal cleaning and sealing of the recycled-content floor. The Nature Realm includes the 10,000-square-foot visitors center with a gift shop, several gardens, observation decks, two ponds, hiking trails and a tall-grass prairie. Regular center hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. For more information, visit summitmetroparks.org or call 330-865-8065.

April blooms with hikes

Join a naturalist to see bluebells and other wildflowers that are blooming this time of year during any of these free programs in April.

- A wildflower walk will be April 22 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Furnace Run Metro Park and the Daffodil Trail, 3100 Brush Road in Richfield. Hike with a naturalist to see a gorgeous display of spring wildflowers on this easy walk.

- Enjoy a hike along the river with a naturalist in hopes of seeing a tremendous amount of bluebells and other wildflowers along the way. The hike will be April 28 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Everett Road covered bridge, 2370 Everett Road in Peninsula.

Other April events

- Archery for families will be April 1 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Twinsburg Community Center, 10260 Ravenna Road in Twinsburg. Archery is one of the oldest arts still practiced today, and it's more accessible than ever. Families with children ages 9 years and older can join to learn international-style target archery together at Twinsburg's indoor range. Program is good for beginning and practiced archers. All equipment and hands-on instruction provided. People must be 50 inches or taller. Advance registration is required and has begun. For information, call 330-865-8065.

- Archery for kids will be at the Twinsburg Community Center April 2 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Children 9 to 15 years can join to learn international-style target archery at Twinsburg's indoor range. Program is good for beginning and practiced archers. All equipment and hands-on instruction provided. Kids must be 50 inches or taller. Advance registration is required. - Archery for adults will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. April 2 at the Twinsburg Community Center, 10260 Ravenna Road. Adults 16 years and older can learn international-style target archery and test their marksmanship at Twinsburg's indoor range.

- All About Otters will be April 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Liberty Park Nature Center, 9999 Liberty Road in Twinsburg. Celebrate the return of river otters to local waters and learn about these playful creatures through interactive displays, fun activities and more. Nature center hours will be extended to 7 p.m. For information, call 330-865-8065.

- A Spring Snake Hike will be at the Liberty Park Nature Center, Twinsburg Ledges area, 9999 Liberty Road in Twinsburg, April 6 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. They climb, they swim and they slither. Hike along wooded trails with a naturalist in search of Ohio's 28 snake species in trees, under logs and on the forest floor. For information, call 330-865-8065.

- Join for a hike at Wood Hollow Metro Park April 7 from 3 to 4:30 p.m., 2121 Barlow Road in Hudson. Join a naturalist for an afternoon hike on Downy Loop Trail and look for downy woodpeckers and other Ohio native wildlife along the way. For information, call 330-865-8065.

- Stop by Liberty Park and the Twinsburg Ledges area April 9 from 10 a.m. to noon for "Wild in the Woods." All ages can stop by our nature play area at Liberty Park and engage in fun, hands-on experiences with nature. A naturalist will be on hand to help guide your experience. Getting dirty is encouraged, so dress appropriately. For information, call 330-865-8065.

- "Kinderealm: April Showers" will be April 11 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Liberty Park Nature Center, 9999 Liberty Road in Twinsburg. Children 3 to 6 years with an adult companions can learn how April showers prepare plants and animals for spring. A craft and hike are part of the program. Make other arrangements for younger children unable to remain in infant seats or strollers. Advance registration is required. For information, call 330-865-8065.

- Nature stories will be told at the Liberty Park Nature Center April 13 from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Young children and their adult companions can enjoy this interactive, nature-inspired story time intended for ages 18 months to 3 years. - Join for "Wild in the Woods" April 13 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Liberty Park Nature Center, 9999 Liberty Road in Twinsburg. All ages can stop by the nature play area at Liberty Park and engage in fun, hands-on experiences with nature. A naturalist will help guide the experience. - "When I Grow Up ... " will be April 14 from 2 to 2:30 p.m. at Deep Lock Quarry Metro Park, 5779 Riverview Road in Peninsula. Some baby animals look nothing like their parents. Search for some young and adult wildlife while hiking the trail with a naturalist. For information, call 330-865-8065.
