A former osteopathic doctor found guilty of one count of sexual imposition, a third-degree misdemeanor, on Aug. 29, 2014, will appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court.

Summit County Court of Common Pleas Judge Scot Stevenson agreed to keep the stay of sentence to serve 59 days in jail in place for James P. Bressi Aug. 30 in his courtroom pending an appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court.

Bressi lost his appeal to the 9th District Court of Appeals, but his attorney said the stay did not specify which court the stay applied to, and said the stay should remain in place while he appeals the case to the Ohio Supreme Court.

If his appeal is unsuccessful, Stevenson said Bressi will serve his jail time.
