With the second half of the 2012-13 season right around the corner, the Nordonia High School ice hockey team competed in the Bay Holiday Tournament.
The tournament took place Dec. 21 to 23..
The Knights battled three teams during the event: Westlake Dec. 21, Bay Dec. 22 and Lakewood Dec 23.
Nordonia fell to defeat in all three contests, but they played their best match of the tournament on Sunday against Lakewood.
Scoring a goal for the Knights in the Lakewood contest was sophomore center Dominic Cinalli.
According to Nordonia head coach Joe Kramp, the competition at the Bay Holiday Tournament was challenging.
"All of the teams we played are teams that are a little higher in the league than us," said Kramp. "They're in the upper divisions."
Nordonia competes in the Blue Division of the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League.
Kramp indicated, though, that facing tougher competition has done the Knights some good, helping them to continue improving their collective game.
"We're still working to put three periods of hockey together," said Kramp. "The kids have learned a lot from playing tougher competition [in this tournament]."
On Dec. 28, Nordonia hosted Aurora, but results were not available at press time.
On Jan. 4, the Knights are scheduled to clash with Brush on the road.
According to Kramp, the Knights are developing chemistry as a team, as well as developing their grasp of the fundamentals of the game.
"The kids are starting to do a lot of the little things right," he said. "Hopefully, we can carry that into the rest of the season."
On Jan. 6, Nordonia will visit the Dan Kostel Ice Arena in Garfield Heights to take on Twinsburg. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
