Knight swim teams enjoyed solid December

The Nordonia High School swimming and diving teams were both victorious recently.

The Knights and Lady Knights traveled to Wadsworth on Dec. 12. The Nordonia boys won by the score of 166-114, while the girls squad posted a 157-122 margin.

Jarod Riedel was a double winner in individual events for Nordonia. He finished first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.10 and the 100 freestyle with an effort of 53.30.

Also placing first in individual events for the Knights were Zach Zurcher in the 200 freestyle (1:56.78), Phil Rinehardt in the 100 butterfly (1:02.12) and Connor Steele in the 500 freestyle (5:52.53).

Three of the Nordonia boys' relay teams also finished in first place.

One was the 200 medley unit of Cory Krusinski, Andrew Grell, Patrick Rinehardt and Riedel. That squad's winning time was 1:49.97.

Another relay team that finished first was the 200 freestyle squad of Riedel, Phil Rinehardt, Grell and Zuercher. That group's time was 1:36.56.

In addition, the Knights' 400 freestyle relay unit placed first with a time of 3:37.05. The members of that team were Phil Rinehardt, Krusinski, Patrick Rinehardt and Zuercher.

On the girls' side, Jenna Dasher was a double winner in individual events for Nordonia. She finished first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04.59 and first in the 200 freestyle with an effort of 2:06.08.

Emma Toaz was another double winner for the Lady Knights. She placed first in both the 100 backstroke (1:07.33) and the 200 individual medley (2:28.80).

Also placing first in an individual event was Jill Grell in the 500 freestyle. She finished with a time of 5:52.98.

Like the boys, the Nordonia girls also finished first in three relays, including the 200 medley race (2:06.74). Comprising that squad were Toaz, Soraya Sadegi, Dasher and Erica Abbott.

The Lady Knights' 200 freestyle unit of Sabrina Soltis, Sadegi, Abbott and Grell placed first with a time of 1:54.38.

In addition, the 400 freestyle relay team posted a winning time of 4:01.77. Among the members of that squad were Grell, Soltis, Dasher and Toaz.

Nordonia then competed in the Canton City Schools Christmas Swimming & Diving Invitational Dec. 15.

Both the boys 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay teams advanced to the finals with times of 1:32.77 and 3:28.30, respectively.

Each unit consisted of Riedel, Grell, Phil Rinehardt and Zuercher.

In individual events, Zuercher advanced to the finals in the 200 freestyle (1:52.61) and Riedel did the same in the 50 freestyle (22.86).

The Lady Knights advanced to the finals of the 200 freestyle relay, posting a season-best time of 1:48.03 in the process. Doing so were Dasher, Sadegi, Grell and Toaz.

Jenna Dasher also set a school record in the 100 fly, swimming a time of 1:00.90.

In diving, Dominika Janisz finished ninth, posting a score of 311.15.

On the same day, Stephen Romanik repeated as diving champion at the Viking Invitational. He captured first place with a score of 503.15.
