Last week was a busy week for the Nordonia High School boys and girls bowling teams. The Knights and Lady Knights played a total of three matches.

Nordonia battled Tallmadge on the road Jan. 14. The Knights dropped a 2,354-2,325 decision to the Blue Devils.

The boys team was down by just 100 pins after the first two regular games. However, the Knights weren't able to complete their comeback during the Baker Games.

Sophomore Ryan Liederbach paced Nordonia with games of 238 and 266 for a 504 series.

On the girls' side, the Lady Knights won their match against Tallmadge, posting a 1,954-1,801 victory.

Sophomore Marisa Rittenberger led the way for Nordonia. She rolled a 222 series and a 370 game.

On Jan. 17, Nordonia battled Green at Roseland Lanes. The Bulldogs bested the Knights by the score of 2,533-2,281.

Once again, Liederbach was at the forefront of Nordonia's attack, producing games of 222 and 223 for a 445 series.

For the girls, the Lady Knights also fell to defeat against Green, suffering a 2,290-2,051 setback. Freshman Hannah Mazzulo rolled a 195 game to lead Nordonia.

On Jan. 18, Nordonia clashed with Walsh Jesuit at Legend Lanes. This time, the Knights emerged victorious, posting a 2,483-2,373 win.

Senior Nick Vanni led the way for Nordonia. He bowled games of 231 and 216 for a 447 series. In addition, Liederbach produced a 216 game and a 404 series.

The Nordonia girls lost to Walsh Jesuit by the score of 2,089-1,999. Rittenberger paced the Lady Knights with a 198 game and a 366 series.

According to Nordonia head coach Bob Glontz, the Knights and Lady Knights performed at a high level against tough competition.

"There was a lot of good bowling," said Glontz. "We just ran into some good teams, and they bowled a little better than we did."

The Knights now sport an overall record of 6-4 and their mark within the Greater Summit County Bowling League is 5-4.

The Lady Knights, meanwhile, are still 4-3-1, both overall and in league action.

On Jan. 23, Nordonia will travel to Akron Buchtel.

On Jan. 25, the Knights and Lady Knights will visit Akron Firestone.

This weekend, Nordonia is scheduled to participate in the G-Men Classic at Sky Lanes in Garrettsville.
