Nordonia's Romanik wins state diving title; girls hoops team falls to Hudson

Nordonia diver Stephen Romanik won the Division I state title Feb. 23 at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.

Romanik, last year's state runner-up, scored 557.15 points. Hudson's Alex Obendorf, last year's state champ, finished second with 512.5 points.A total of 24 divers competed.

Meanwhile, the Nordonia girls basketball team lost a 65-52 decision to Hudson Feb. 23 at Ellet High School in Akron.

The second-seeded Lady Explorers (19-5) didn't take full control of the game until the third quarter.

Hudson (19-5) led 37-27 at halftime and built its lead to 19 (50-31) late in the third period.

Hannah Boesinger led the Lady Explorers with a game-high 17 points and Jackie Ulmer added 15 points. Allison Zullo and Krissy Mummey finished with nine and eight points, respectively, for Hudson.

Asya Shine led the Lady Knights (7-16) with 13 points and Katie Karalic and Kayla Shine added 10 and nine points, respectively.
