The Nordonia High School softball team is back in the groove.

After some early-season turmoil, the Lady Knights won four of five games recently, starting with a 4-2 road victory over Suburban League National Conference rival Hudson on Monday, April 17.

Jen Willis and Rachel Cornett led the way offensively for Nordonia. Both were 2-for-3 at the plate.

On April 18, Nordonia dropped a 10-7 decision to conference counterpart Stow-Munroe Falls at Memorial Softball Field. Lexi Maciejowski was the top hitter in that contest for Nordonia with a 3-for-4 performance.

Then April 21, the Lady Knights and Lady Bulldogs finished their suspended game from earlier in the season. This time, Nordonia prevailed by the score of 17-15 in eight innings.

There were a lot of offensive stars in that slugfest. Maciejowski paced Nordonia; she was 3-for-5 with a grand-slam home run. In addition, Hannah Ours was 4-for-5, Cornett went 3-for-5, and Kendall Becker also contributed three hits.

Nordonia head coach Rita Covin is pleased with the way the Lady Knights have persevered and performed during the past two weeks.

"The girls are scoring lots of runs playing 'small ball'," said Covin. "They're doing well."

As a result of that series of games, Nordonia now owns an overall record of 6-8. The Lady Knights are also 4-2 within the National Conference.

On April 24, Nordonia was set to travel to conference rival Brecksville-Broadview Heights, followed by home game with Cuyahoga Falls April 25. Results of these contests were not available at press time.
